You should make sure you follow the care instructions for each type of succulent you intend to grow. There are several factors to consider when choosing the right container for your Trachyandra plants. There are exceptions to this rule that make up a small portion of the cactus species. Cacti are known for their unique feature of areoles. The lower areoles of the stem lose their functionality after a few years. Many leafless cacti plants have areoles located on the higher areas of their stems. The stem can reduce water loss by preventing air from flowing freely around it.

At lower right is a succulent native to Oregon: Sedum oreganum. Below: Becky wrapped a large, cold-hardy sempervivum Rosette around a small, smaller Sedum confusum and Delosperma Cooperi.
