A drainage screen is a mesh you place under the succulent pot before adding soil. An ideal plant to place at the center is a small Agave succulent. Avoid placing cacti, such as Agaves, in reach of animals and children when decorating with succulents indoors. There are many beautiful succulents and other cacti to inspire you. A great thing about being at the Desert Botanical Garden in early spring is many of the aloe and cacti are in bloom! If you don't know what cacti look like, I hope these photos will show you.
