You will need to water your succulents differently from season-to-season. But as long you only water them when the soil feels dry, it will stay healthy. They will thrive on very little watering, and they will last until next year. Cuttings should be taken in spring or summer 2-3 weeks after the flowering period. Apply a low nitrogen fertilizer once a month from spring to fall. Give it time to dry after the flowering season. Usually, a month is sufficient. After allowing the soil to dry, you can continue with the regular frequency as above.

This popular succulent is not native to Kenya. However, it can be found in a small part of Kenya along the border from Tanzania, where its prolific growth is quite impressive. The leaves are small and spiny and the branches are also spiny. Small pots can hold less water because of the high evaporation rates. Succulents need water less frequently than other houseplants. They only require water once or twice a week. This makes it two plants in one with the bottom part being the rootstock while the top part or scion being the actual moon cactus.
