Things can get a little more complicated when you grow your barrel cactus outside. For plants that are actively growing, you should apply a balanced fertilizer (e.g., 20-20-20) every other month. If the plant was placed indoors, it is better to let it stay outdoors to get enough sunlight. Once they have grown up indoors, they will need to be exposed to sunlight outside.
