Everywhere in the world women live longer than men - but this was not always the case. The available data from rich countries shows that women didn't live longer than men in the 19th century. What is the reason women live longer than men in the present and why is this difference growing in the past? The evidence isn't conclusive and we're only able to provide some solutions.

Everywhere in the world women live longer than men - but this was not always the case. The available data from rich countries shows that women didn't live longer than men in the 19th century. What is the reason women are more likely to live longer than men? What is the reason the advantage has grown in the past? We only have a few clues and the evidence isn't sufficient to support an informed conclusion. We know there are behavioral, biological and environmental factors that play an integral role in women living longer than men, we don't know what percentage each factor plays in.
