The plant has two legs, and there is a small "pup" coming off the bottom of one leg that looks nice and healthy, but the two 6 foot legs are partially browned from a bad frost. This Mexican beauty goes by the names Beaucarnea, Bottle Plant and Elephant Foot.
The plant will hunker down and fall asleep, then it will fold its upper leaves over the vital core. The dudleyas in San Diego County are easy to find. A writer for The New Yorker recently asked me about dudleyas, and how likely they are to survive in the wild.
