Portulacaria, the shrub succulent Portulacaria (elephant's meal) once covered approximately 2 1/2 million acres of its native South Africa. But its population has been reduced significantly by overgrazing sheep and goats. Native to the grasslands of Lesotho and South Africa, the torch plant is a hardy succulent well adapted to living in arid areas. It is a Madagascar-native. Too much direct sun can cause damage to your plant. The nursery is only a few miles away from the ocean so this white-striped Azave is fine in full sunshine. You may need to protect your skin from fine perlite. Fine hairs can shade plants, protect them from the sun's ultraviolet radiation, reduce moisture loss, and keep pests away. There are other factors that you need to consider in order for your succulents to grow into happy, healthy plants. Crushed lava rock can fill in gaps, keep weed seeds away from germinating and hold moisture in soil. It also makes it easier for plants to be deadheaded and pruned. Mangave Macho Mocha' is the same color as the dark purple-red lava rock. Mangave "Macho Mocha", contrasts with blue Agave, ripple jade, and Kalanchoeluciae.

Mangave Macho Mocha’ contrasts with Euphorbia tiruli 'Sticks on Fire'and Aloe vera. Mangave Macho Mocha' and Agave vilmoriniana (octopus agave), are flanked by Euphorbia tirucalli ’Sticks on Fire’. Above: Kalanchoe tomentosa 'Chocolate Soldier' repeats aspects of a one-of-a-kind art pot. But I wonder if those who exclaim over it are conscious of other important aspects. The plant's dark green upright leaves can be seen at the left, as visitors point. Some have observed the leaves dropping when they are watered with ice cubes. It is an indication that the plant may be stressed. Cacti also develop lateral roots that tend to branch several times as the plant continues to grow.
