I was so excited to have a succulent that crested on it's own in a garden under my care. Although it's great to have a rare plant in your collection, they are often too costly to afford. They had an impressive collection of crested Aeoniums. Crested succulents are a rare but affordable addition to any succulent collection. Like most succulents, standing water must be avoided at all costs, so well-draining soil is essential. If your indoor succulents are not able to receive enough sunlight, a grow lamp is an excellent option. It allows you to lighten those areas that are difficult to reach. In such a case, a grow light will be your savior. If the winters are colder than the plants' cold threshold, many of these plants will need to be moved indoors. Cindy Davison from The Succulent Perch created this amazing small-sized succulent garden. She also created a beautiful hanging planter using cork board and greening pins to attach the succulents and then filled in the rest of the space with sphagnum moss. When using plastic to cover your plants make sure you provide enough space between the plants and the plastic cover, otherwise the plastic can fry your plants under the heat of the sun because the temperature can rise too quickly. While I do my best to ensure that my succulents get plenty of sunshine, it seems like they don't get enough indoors to stay vibrant and beautiful all year. To keep it healthy and happy, put it in a spot where it gets bright, indirect sunlight for a few hours a day and water it about once a week. Put the stem cuttings in a pot of potting mix, and place it in a warm spot, but out of direct sunlight. Aeonium root can be divided by cutting it through. It is most commonly done when the plant becomes too big for its pot.

You should ensure that the soil is dry. Water the cutting only after the top two inches are dry. Leave the cutting to stand for a few days, in order to dry out and callus over. Kelly Grummons from Cold Hardy Cactus is responsible for many amazing Opuntias. They have beautiful colored blooms. A healthy cactus requires good drainage. Tom Jesch (manager of Waterwise) is a die-hard cactus fan and was raised in the Sierra Nevadas. Tom gave them some to me years ago. They've survived weeks of being under snow for over a foot. It can be confusing for a beginner gardener to know where to start to plant this beautiful plant in your garden. You can also put the strand directly onto the soil. The plant will grow eventually.

Root rot may develop if the soil remains constantly moist. This can lead to the plant rotting from the roots upwards. If your succulents are left in standing water, or overly wet soil, for too long, the roots basically drown and begin to rot. The extra water can cause the skin to split and create a visible scar. The lower part of the plant can be any type of cacti, which acts as the rootstock.

The nearly spherical leaves on this plant are about the size of a pea and the trailing stems can reach two to three feet in length. So often the much admired succulent gardens are massive and require a dedicated gardener (or two, or three...) to maintain. I'm constantly envious of the vibrant succulents that can be found in California gardens. Mountain Crest Gardens stocks most of these types. 'Pina Colada'. This particular cactus blossoms yellow with red stripes the first day. On the second day the flower turns pink. This causes sunburn which can make the leaves purple, red, or brown.
