Why do women live longer than men?
Everywhere in the world women live longer than men - but this was not always the case. The available data from rich countries shows that women didn't live longer than men in the 19th century. What's the main reason women have a longer life span than men? And اضيق وضعية للجماع how is this difference growing as time passes? There is only limited evidence and the evidence isn't sufficient to draw an absolute conclusion. We are aware that behavioral, biological and environmental factors contribute to the fact that women have longer lives than men, but we don't know exactly what the contribution to each of these variables is.
Independently of the exact weight, we know that at least a portion of the reason why women live longer than men however not as in the past, is to have to do with the fact that a number of significant non-biological elements have changed. What are these factors that have changed? Some are well known and relatively straightforward, like the fact that men smoke more often. Some are more complex. For example, there is evidence that in rich countries the female advantage increased in part because infectious diseases used to affect women disproportionately a century ago, so advances in medicine that reduced the long-term health burden from infectious diseases, especially for survivors, ended up raising women's longevity disproportionately.
Everywhere in the world women tend to live longer than men
The first chart below shows life expectancy at birth for men and women. It is clear that every country is over the diagonal line of parity. This means that a newborn girl in all countries can anticipate to live longer than her brothers.
It is interesting to note that while the female advantage is present everywhere, difference between countries is huge. In Russia women live 10 years more than men. In Bhutan there is a difference of less that half a year.

The advantage women had in life expectancy was smaller in developed countries than it is now.
Let's examine how the female longevity advantage has changed in the course of time. The chart below shows male and female life expectancy at birth in the US from 1790 to 2014. Two points stand out.
First, there is an upward trend. Men and women in America have longer lives than they were a century ago. This is in line with historical increases in life expectancy everywhere in the world.
There is a widening gap: The female advantage in life expectancy used to be very small however it increased dramatically during the last century.
By selecting 'Change Country by country' in the chart, you can confirm that the two points are applicable to the other countries with available information: Sweden, France and the UK.
