Over or underwatering is the most common issue for new succulent growers. But there are still other issues. Echeverias and Sempervivums can easily root in water. They will often be "root bound", meaning that the roots fill up the pot, and the plant doesn’t have enough space to grow new roots. A shallow pot will dry out more quickly than a tall pot.
