It may seem obvious but many people are surprised to find that their carefully arranged succulents no longer look neat and tidy. These are just some of the questions that we will be answering in this post. For more information on top dressings, please refer to this post. This post will cover everything. Once you have applied it, it takes at least two months to release all the nutrients into the soil. Succulents are pretty low maintenance plants, but even a cactus needs some nutrients every now and then. Check to see if any plants need some extra care. The primary requirement to grow a healthy succulent indoors is adequate lighting. After they have been indoors during the winter, I prune them in the spring. While many of the commonly found succulents are summer growers, there are quite a few winter growers.

Pruning and maintaining succulents is a simple task, but there are a few things that will make it a much smoother process. Although I am aware that there are many types of succulents available, I almost forgot about them until they arrived. These lovely succulent cuttings were a pleasant surprise. After allowing the wounds settle, you are able to plant your succulents offsets and allow them to grow. If you have an arrangement that still doesn't look great after pruning, a top dressing can be the magic touch to make it seem professional and clean. Make sure your scissors or shears are clean before pruning to prevent your succulents from getting a disease. Whether you use a knife or pair of scissors or shears is up to you, but whatever tool you choose, make sure it's sharp and clean. You still want to clean up, remove dead leaves and debris, but generally replanting, beheadding and propagating are best done in spring. In this case (a lovely arrangement gifted to me by Desiree at Redeeming Eden), the Aloe still looked great, as did some of the succulents in the front.

There might still be some gaps after planting the cuttings. After the cuttings have dried for around a day you can plant them again in the arrangement. While you can take out any leaves and debris that has dried, it is best to do so in the spring or fall. Additionally, it is important to clean out the area between plants. You can prevent insects from infecting your plants by removing the debris. How can you identify fast-draining soil? It is possible for them to stay on the stem for too much, making it harder for the soil underneath to dry out. The plant could then begin to rot. This is the time to remove the soil from the plant and treat it more like mature succulents. Essentially, they can be used as decorative rocks to cover your soil.

The length of the gloves are supremely helpful when reaching into those overgrown monsters they call agave. When potting cacti, you can use gloves to help prevent getting poked by their spines. To ensure that everything is planted the next day, I recommend making as many cuts as possible. If it feels dry, then it's time to water. The towel or newspaper can be held in place by you without creating spines. Pruning your succulents can prevent rot and encourage new growth. It will also help to prolong the life expectancy of your plants. A cutting tool is all you need to prune succulents. So, do you need special soil for cactus? You should not water the soil during propagation. You can also download my cheat sheet to learn how to tell if your succulents need more water or less. This also means that they are more susceptible to changes in the environment. Generally, the succulent will do well when you provide it with the right conditions and take care of it. The stick should be inserted into the soil right to the bottom.

Although succulents grow slowly, they can outgrow any pot they are currently in. They also need regular maintenance. Your plant might not grow well in a smaller size pot. The plant also needs sunlight, but it will thrive if the temperature is not too high. To make the soil more breathable, you'll add the perlite and coarsesand. However, Elephant Bushes are unrelated and have more tapered branches. However, succulents are best succulent fertilizer pruned at the start of their growing season. You can however prune any time. This can be done by adding 1/4 to 1/2 strength of diluted fertilizer to the water that you are going to use for watering or misting the plants. The video below shows the difference between the before and after photos. The final step is to add a top-dressing. Add the top dress and give it a final check. Spring and fall are great times to re-evaluate your succulent arrangements and give them a little freshening up.
