It will depend on the species and the size of the succulents being separated, but it is easier to get them out of soil before separating. The leaves may appear translucent depending upon the species. If the upper leaves are covered by the lower leaves, they absorb the most sunlight. You can remove the covering once the seedlings are sprouted to prevent them from rotting. You can feel the soil by digging your finger into it. If it feels dry it is time for your jade plant to be watered. Leaf cuttings can also be used to propagate jade trees. This will prevent spreading of infection. It's better to be dry than wet. It does not encourage better drainage. Instead, it creates "perched water tables", which raise the water level closer to your roots, increasing your plant's risk of developing root disease. Though this is a commonly recommended practice to increase drainage, it actually does the opposite. This is better than watering according to a set schedule. It can also prevent overwatering. Terra cotta absorbs moisture from the soil. This can dry out your plant faster if you give it too much water. If the soil is moist, it's best to wait a few days and check the soil again.

When you're ready to plant the cutting, make sure it is in moist soil. If you have access to seeds, you will be able sow them in a small container with good drainage soil. You can make a huge difference to your Sansevieria's health by choosing the right container. Avoid using succulent soils aloe types with pictures high amounts of water retention material, such as clay, peatmoss or coconut coir. Many cacti shed off these roots and form them when necessary. Most succulents and other cacti like bright light. But if you purchased your plants in a nursery, it might be necessary to slowly acclimate the plants to more light over several weeks to avoid sunburn. A little pruning may be necessary to keep your succulents at the correct size and shape.
