Why is my succulent turning a red color? If your plants look limp and soggy and are turning brown, then you might be giving them too much moisture. They could be getting too much sun, or the browning might result from a pest infestation. Although it's difficult to see the insects themselves, the presence of a fine, white fuzz on succulent powdery substance on the undersides of leaves could indicate that your succulent is infested with mealybugs. However, unlike mealybugs, scale insects are wingless and do not cluster. The exception to this rule is the agave scale weevil which burrows into a plant's center and lays its eggs there. However, you can still make a succulent plant bloom if it is not actively producing flowers. Although it is possible to grow 'Lola from leaves, the process may take longer than other forms of succulent leaf propagation. Rooting hormone can be used to accelerate the growth process, especially if it is grown from leaves. Leaves aren't viable. But even with this simplicity, there are guidelines to be adhered to.

There are two main genera: Sedum and Sempervivum. When bred with Sedum the intergeneric cross is Sedoro. Sedum is short for Sedum spathulifolium. Bright indirect sunlight or full sun is perfect for these plants. Sunburns on plants can cause permanent scarring and, worse, can cause them to die. Hybrids can be cared for in the same way as they were created. If you can keep a Haworthia alive then a Gasterhaworthia and Alworthia will also need to be taken care of. Keep succulents on the dry side. Is it possible to make succulents flower? Although there are many options for how to propagate bear paw succulents in the world, some are more effective than others. Root rot can be identified if the roots turn a dark brown or black color and feel damp and slimy when touched. While indirect light is bright sufficient to cast shadows, it's not dark enough to be clearly defined. This aloe can speak if it wanted to. Above: Aloe Maculata indoors growing in Seattle.

Above: A dyckia. These bromeliad relatives are featured in the show for a reason I don't understand, but they are beautiful. Pots don't have to be just containers. They are works of art that may be worth more than the plant. Or, place pots against walls and hardscape, boulders, and/or trees that absorb and slowly let out the heat. Above: Conophytum minimum. Sure wish I could get my hands on a few of those muffin-like pots. If you water at night, the water will not drain and dry up as quickly, and it will get too cold. If your succulents don't get adequate lighting, they will start to stretch to find the sun. We also prefer to buy our strange succulents from local growers because 1) we get quick and easy answers to our questions and 2) the plants are already familiar with our current environment. If you notice any signs of sunburn, you'll need to move your Rhipsalis to a less sunny location. You'll need sharp, clean scissors. Other important aspects are listed below. To find the perfect spot, you might need to move the plant as many times possible.

It is important to note that this plant doesn't have any branches. To propagate it from stem cuttings would be to wound the plant, sometimes fatally. Sometimes, I will choose a plant with multiple plants that doesn't look as nice. They require little water and bloom beautifully when they are fully grown. One year later, the little girl regrew in that same spot in the sand as a Saguaro. I can never remember that little "x." It means "crossed." Although it is correct that the cultivar is called "Pork and Beans", the leaves actually look more like jelly beans. It's like a quick swim! The soil can dry out between waterings, which allows baby succulents to grow strong roots even in short periods of drought. Cactus plants that are grown outside will require more watering because the air moving through the soil carries moisture. The Thanksgiving cactus is often kept as a houseplant.

Of course, Thanksgiving is a holiday. Are you like me and need to gather, hunt, and test things before everything works? While most succulents are able to bloom in the spring and summer, others like aloes and crusulas can only flower midwinter. Shrub sedums die back in winter and return in spring. Tenaya Capron, Buffalo, TX: While midwinter lows are above freezing on average, winter lows can drop to the single digits occasionally. Candy Suter, Roseville (near Sacramento), CA: Midwinter temperatures can drop to the 20s F, but rarely dip below 25 F. Candy then moves her succulents into a small, walk-in greenhouse (right) or a covered gazebo (left). She covers them with 5mm plastic to retain heat. Pat Enderly from Virginia Beach, VA. Midwinter lows average 32 F. Pat brings the plants inside and tucks them in shelving units she ordered online. Pat added that the lights, which are controlled by timers, remain on every day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
