While a tightly curled up succulent is getting plenty of (or too much) sun, one that is flattening out or has it's leaves spreading out is not getting enough. Therefore, if you are keeping it indoors, be sure to position it in a spot that receives plenty of direct sunlight. This is why pruning is necessary.
