For a series of video adventures about succulents, Annie Schreck (on-air host, researcher at Mountain Crest Gardens) will be joining me. Mountain Crest Gardens nursery, to which I am proudly associated, is the largest mail order succulent supplier. Aloe barberae (also known as Aloe bainesii and Aloidendron barberae), Africa’s largest aloe vera is stunning, dramatic, and sculptural. Jeff explained that when a wildfire destroyed his previous home in 2008, it also damaged a large Aloe barberae. Although nurseries might sell boxesed, rooted specimens for thousands of dollar, Aloe barbarae can be started from cuttings. Even large, branched ones that are several feet in length, it is not uncommon to find them sold at nurseries. When you see the eye-candy below, you might be too. You can eventually see your succulent roots rot if they are exposed to too much water. The trunks and bases of succulents can become very large over time. Don't place them near buildings, pipes, or pools. If your plant has only had a day or two of too much sun, it may be just fine. It might make sense to remove a portion of your Christmas Cactus that is already quite small. This plant can only be propagated from leaves if the entire leaf has been removed.

Let's learn how to water succulents that are too dry. Jeff can plant them right away, even though some prefer to let cuttings and truncheons air dry for several weeks. You can then dip some cotton swabs into 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol and dab the pests. Pesticide soap products can paralyze pests when they reach the area it has been applied.
