It doesn't have to be given to your succulent fertilizer. However, it will help it grow. If you give it to your plant early enough, it will simply "forget all about it" and return to growing. Your succulent will start to produce offsets from its parent when it is healthy. During this time, the plant only focuses on recovering from the stress of the growing season and preparing for the next flowering season. Overwatering is the number one reason that your snake plant will eventually die. Be sure to keep the soil hydrated but not soggy.
