Learn as much as you can about each plant's growing requirements and match them to your landscape. While it can be more time-consuming and costly to find succulents and cacti that meet similar requirements, it is well worth it. You should also keep in mind that not all species are suited for leaf cuttings. If you want to ensure that your plants have a consistent source of propagation, offset division may be the best option.

This is to protect any pathogens which could get into the wounds. When you add the cuttings to the new soil, don't allow the wounds get too callous. This helps prevent possible infection by bacteria or fungus. These items will not decay, which could lead to many problems, such as a possible fungus-gnat infestation.
