T. maxima, a upright-shaped succulent, catches your eye because of its bright, vivid colors. It starts out as an upright stump with a circular hairy stem that trails off the root of your plant. This succulent's scientific name (Tillandsia strictlya) means "erect," which is indicative of the plant's upright habits.
