The plant's growth cycle depends on the amount of light, so monkey tail cactus will often go into dormancy in fall or winter. Your indoor succulent garden will be more successful if you choose succulents that prefer shade or low-light. I have a much higher success rate with stem cuttings so I always opt for this method first. Because the Zanzibar aloe is native to a region with a very arid climate, it does not need much water, and can even survive brief periods of drought. However, succulents don't need much water.
