Is Gritty Mix or Succulent Soil Better for Cacti and Succulents? Good drainage should be your top priority when selecting a potting soil. You should keep the sprouts damp until they reach a sufficient size to be potted. Round-ball cacti are generally grown for their aesthetic value.
