Soggy soil isn't a good environment for succulents. A glass jar or terrarium with no drainage holes will not make them happy. Lightly spraying succulents with water can help them survive for a period of time, but if you really want to thrive, they need to follow the "soak and dry" method. Succulents also have a dormant time when they don't require as much water. The plant's growth cycle depends on the amount of light, so monkey tail cactus will often go into dormancy in fall or winter. It is important to choose succulents which aren't tolerant of full sun.
