Annie Schreck from Mountain Crest Gardens is my on-air host. We will be sharing our succulent adventures in a video series. Mountain Crest Gardens nursery, with which I'm proudly affiliated, is the largest mail-order succulent supplier. Aloe barberae (aka Aloe bainesii, Aloidendron barberae), Africa's largest aloe, is sculptural, intriguing and dramatic. Jeff explained that a 2008 wildfire caused damage to his home and also to an Aloe barberae. While nurseries may sell root-packed, boxed specimens worth thousands of dollars for their clients, Aloe Barbarae grows easily from cuttings. When you see the eye-candy below, you might be too. Your succulent roots may become dry and brittle over time. Over time trunks and bases can grow to be quite large so avoid planting near pipes, buildings or pools. The plant might be fine if it has only been exposed to too much sun for a couple of days. It might be more sensible to take only a small portion of an existing Christmas Cactus. I can only propagate leaves from this plant if the entire leaf has fallen off.

4 years agoLet's take some time to look at overwatered plant remedies. Jeff plants the cuttings or truncheons immediately, even though some prefer to let them dry for several weeks. After that, you can dip some cotton swabs with 70% isopropyl alcohol and apply it to the pests. Pesticide soap products can paralyze pests when they reach the area it has been applied. To be effective, these products must be eaten by pests. Page 114 - In the Thinking Outside the Pot section, I feel a little uneasy about "succulents are not dependent on their roots to survive." Yes, they can go a long time living off their stored reserves, but sooner or later they need to send out some roots! Roots that feel damp and look dark brown or black are likely to be suffering from rot. Are you like many others, the black thumb that fails to succeed no matter what effort they make? Our paths often cross in the field of container gardening. This post will teach you how to plant succulents in the ground and when to water your indoor succulent plant.

Your succulent stores all the water it requires within its leaves. Any water left in the soil will only be harmful to your baby. The roots may be beginning to rot due to excess water if the leaves turn brown or become soft. Root rot can only be prevented if you keep the soil dry between waterings. These elements will cause root rot and excessive nitrogen in your succulents. Your succulents will be grateful for this as it makes the potting media dry faster. Proper watering is key to choosing the right soil mixture or growing medium. This is a simple hand poked dot tattoo. It is an unusual method of tattooing that doesn't require a machine. As you can see, I used the second method of laying the stems flat on the soil. Sedum burrito, a native to Southern Mexico, is well-known for its long, hanging stems that are covered in dense, plump, blue-green, or lime-green leaves. You can also opt for stems with roots.

If you have room in your garden and your climate is mild with a maritime influence, consider adding a tree aloe or two. Yes, he will even cut a tree aloe branch for you. Sometimes, you will need earth-moving tools. Provide plenty of sun, ideally on a slope that's not north-facing (too shady). Full sunlight, partial sun, partial shade. This range should correspond to the intensity of your succulent's natural environment. The warm, dry season will mean that your succulents need to be watered more frequently than in the winter dormancy. The Laguna Beach Water District works tirelessly to educate the community about water conservation. The tour, a charity fundraiser, is hosted by the Laguna Beach Garden Club. Succulent hunting is my favorite part of the Laguna Beach Gate & Garden Tour. Laguna isn't without its challenges. The magazine did not have the space to accommodate all my ideas. Debra sent me! Please let nursery owners or managers know. Jeff's home nursery is a landscaped, 4.5-acre botanic garden in which every plant is for sale. Even though it does not affect the health of a mature specimen, it may jeopardize the growth of a young plant.

MCG's greenhouses might only have a 3-inch pot. What grows in that little pot may grow to be enormous in 20 years. Make sure to give the plant enough water to drain from the pot. The best soil for your Spiral Spurge should be well-draining; it can be a commercial cactus mix obtained from a local plant shop. We have already mentioned that you can propagate your plants from a Crassula-ovata parent plant. It is important to ensure that both the cuttings and the plants are healthy in order to obtain the highest yield. Loamy and sandy soil is best for planting. You can water your plant if it feels damp. Consider the possibility of your snake plant coming into contact with pets or children when you place it indoors. Use garden scissors to cut them as neatly as you can. If necessary, give preference to the offspring. The Water District Headquarters has a beautiful succulent garden. I rarely water the plants during winter season because that is when we receive the most rain in my area.

The winter dormant plants include air plants, cactus, and other succulents. Annie and myself discuss why succulents were so popular in the garden and floral world. Laura Eubanks (Design for Serenity) with The Succulent Boy (soon, The Succulent Tod), in front a mounded green she created for the occasion. Celebrity designer Laura Eubanks grew a massive mound of succulents and explained it to a large audience. We recommend learning how to propagate the plants before making a large investment. What brought Annie from far northern CA to the Epicenter of All Things Succulent? As far I know, these plants can not be propagated from leaves. Succulent plants can be resilient but require special conditions to ensure their longevity. It is also important to ensure your plant location isn’t on the slope. If it rains, your succulents will be sitting in a puddle.

Water can be used to your advantage. I often use a top-dressing that incorporates subtle tones from different succulents. This helps pull together all the elements. During their week in San Diego, I took Annie and Jeremy-the-videographer to top succulent destinations (some well known, some not). My site contains a list of succulent places in San Diego (and other areas) that I don't want to reveal. Laguna's annual SmartScape Expo is held here. This free event features landscape experts, workshops and irrigation advice. Succulents have a long history of being both beautiful as well as water-wise. Now that we have all the information you need about the mysterious watch chain succulents type, let's move on to the important part: caring and maintaining your succulents! You can expect some succulents to survive the heat, while others may wilt if left unattended. This depends on the variety of plant. This will result in a stunning floral arrangement. Descriptions will help you narrow down your options. There are many options for luxury hotels, spas and eateries in the city, but you also have the option to explore the Sonoran Desert.
