Your succulents are more likely to die if you water too soon after frostbite. Monocarpic succulents can die as flowering consumes all of their energy. If such succulents grow large, which many do, it can be devilishly hard to prune or remove. A 12-inch container is all you need to make this easy and colorful succulent garden. Although cuttings can be saved (and even reused), you will need them to be removed from the decorated object. Many other cacti begin out as spherical but then become cylindrical over time. Others (collectively known under the name ceroids), eventually turn into tall, spiny columns. The problem is that homeowners often underestimate how large this species becomes over time. Agave americana, also known as the Century plant, grows much larger than most homeowners realize. Due to the intrinsic crowding of limited resources, competition becomes fierce.

DO NOT add a layer of pebbles or activated charcoal to the bottom of a nondraining container, assuming that this "provides drainage." A microbial soup is formed when water pools in a potted bowl. This can lead to rot. They tend to grow on top of each other, in a rosette-like formation, with bigger leaves at the bottom and smaller leaves overlapping on top. In some cases, you could even find some black spots, either on the stem or on the leaves. Some people find that the stem should be placed slightly above the water level to encourage the plant to get the moisture and root. Because succulents draw water from their leaves, the plant can keep its freshness without water. A few cons: It is possible to be seriously injured if you try to grow succulents in your garden. Some species of Agave or cacti are also capable of surviving in the coldest climates. Because it reseeds so frequently, some consider the fragrant white alyssum a weed. Muhlygrass (Muhlenbergia), also known as Muhlenbergia, is an ornamental Grass that can blossom into a spectacular white or pink spectacle. White flowers are visible in the Fall and Spring. Enjoy a 1 minute. Check out Eve's video of a needle on my Instagram.

You can watch my video before planting Agave americana. Century plants (Agave americana) are easy to grow and quite common. A large Agave should not be a pup-producing plant. Know how big any cactus can grow before you snake plant varieties with names. It's smart of her that she knew they would open in full-sun! Also, it is important to keep the arrangement tightly closed because succulents with low light tends to stretch. Jade plants in the afternoon sun will get a reddish tint to their leaves, especially their edges. These have a more pointed and oval shaped leaves, rather than round ones. Be aware of them and be careful. It is important to plan ahead so you know what to expect. This is the Conphytum Obcordellum. The danger is that pads detach easily and cling to whatever they touch. Cylindrical pads grow new ones, thereby enlarging plants indefinitely. Instead of misting, water your plants well.

Rinse the cut with cold running water to stop any bleeding. As usual, water when it is dry 1-2 inches down. They don’t dry as quickly so don’t water as often. Having been accustomed to being indoors, they need to be slowly introduced to the bright outdoor sunlight. Almost always, when you buy your ice plant, you will find the sunlight requirements on the label or the seed package. Happy planting, and as always. Be sure to research the growth habits of any spiny or sharp-edged, fanged or other armed succulents before planting them. Avoid planting any cactus where passersby may brush against it. Every succulent is unique and may differ from the photos. I added faux succulent rosettes and a headband to make succulent crowns that guests could wear to take selfies. And here's Susan wearing a succulent-decorated headband. Susan Morse of Vista (CA) creates extravagant hats. Susan glued them to their hats in dim lighting, so the flowers are easy to see.

Lantana leaves and flowers are aromatic and attract birds and insects. This aids in desert honeybees. Use crushed up egg-shells, diatomaceous earth or diatomaceous clay around the base to stop pests attacking the leaves. The downside to using fresh floral material---even succulents---is that they don't last forever. They don't require moss, and will last the life time of your hat. 8 years ago, succulents made their way into our lives. You can also make succulents out of oven-bake modeling clay, and hot-glue them onto a hat. Spines can puncture skin and make it difficult to remove. Cholla's translucent, needle-like spines can be seen in desert gardens. They glow brilliantly when backlit. Consider these "pros" for potentially dangerous succulents: Many spiny types glow beautifully when backlit and produce beautiful flowers and edible pads. It is easy for detached pads to root wherever they fall. New growth lengthens the rosette and lower leaves dry out and fall off. They have gray, bluish-green foliage and spikes of orange blossoms. Some agaves do not have sharply pointed teeth or stiff leaves, but others can draw blood.
