Why do women live longer than men?
Everywhere in the world women live longer than men - but this was not always the case. The available data from rich countries shows that women didn't live longer than men in the 19th century. What's the reason women have a longer life span than men? What is the reason does this benefit increase in the past? There is only limited evidence and the evidence is not strong enough to make a definitive conclusion. We know that biological, behavioral and environmental factors contribute to the fact that women have longer lives than men, Www.aia.community/wiki/en/index.php?title=Why_Women_Are_More_Likely_To_L... (http://www.yoyosjumpers.com/__media__/js/netsoltrademark.php?d=www.aia.community%2Fwiki%2Fen%2Findex.php%3Ftitle%3DWhy_Women_Are_More_Likely_To_Live_Longer_Than_Men) However, we're not sure how significant the impact to each of these variables is.
We have learned that women live longer than men, regardless of weight. But this isn't due to the fact that certain non-biological aspects have changed. What are these new factors? Some are well known and relatively straightforward, like the fact that men smoke more often. Others are more complicated. For example, there is evidence that in rich countries the female advantage increased in part because infectious diseases used to affect women disproportionately a century ago, so advances in medicine that reduced the long-term health burden from infectious diseases, especially for survivors, ended up raising women's longevity disproportionately.
Everywhere in the world women tend to live longer than men
The first chart below shows life expectancy at birth for men and women. As you can see, every country is above the diagonal parity line - which means that in every country that a baby girl can be expected to live longer than a newborn boy.1
The chart above shows that, while the advantage for women exists everywhere, the difference between countries is huge. In Russia women live 10 years longer than men. In Bhutan there is a difference of less than half a calendar year.

In the richer countries, the female advantage in longevity used to be smaller
Let's look at how female longevity advantage has changed in the course of time. The following chart shows the men and women's life expectancies at birth in the US between 1790 until 2014. Two things stand out.
There is an upward trend. as well as women in the US have a much longer life span longer than they did 100 years ago. This is in line with historical increases in life expectancy everywhere in the world.
The gap is getting wider: Although the female advantage in life expectancy was once quite small It has significantly increased over time.
