Clinical Trials of Dietary Supplements
I continually get advertising claims with a touch of salt, the desire to promote will distort the interpretation of scientific claims and outcomes made often do not stand up to scrutiny.
I am a bit on the chubby side, I usually put on weight simply looking at a cream cake. The people taking part in the study don't know if they're receiving the real point or a placebo and neither do those providing them with the supplements. Hence the term double-blind. The experiment is structured to such a way that there can be no bias introduced even unconsciously by the subjects and by the experimenters. Primarily when the results are analysed might it be made clear who has received a placebo and who has received the actual thing.
