Is this The Brain Booster Of The Future?
One of the most widely used prescribed drugs of the past ten years, modafinil comes with an interesting history. Created in France in the late 1980s as an experimental remedy for narcolepsy, modafinil was approved for prescription consumption by the FDA in 1998. although it was not until the mid naughts which the medication actually caught on in America. What happened?
Sold as a sleep disorder medication by pharmaceutical maker Cephalon and marketed under the brand name Provigil, sales of modafinil were merely twenty five dolars million in 1999. Eight years that are short later (2007), revenues topped $800 million -- so that it is even more profitable compared to Adderall or Viagra. Even though sales would later decline due to generic erosion, Provigil is still probably the most popular wakefulness-promoting representative (or eugeroic) sold by prescription. Ironically, it's the fact that modafinil is chiefly used off-label that's behind its stunning success in the States.
Promptly celebrity
Vastly superior to amphetamines as well as amphetamine-like stimulants because it does not bring about addiction, jitteriness, crashing, along with other adverse effects, modafinil was famously used by U.S. soldiers who needed to keep awake for days on end when fighting in Iraq. Tales of its efficacy shortly reached the house front, along with sales of Provigil steadily rose.
Limitless and beyond
In the 2011 movie Limitless, a character played by actor Bradley Cooper exponentially boosts the brainpower of his by taking an experimental nootropic drug called NZT-48. Because art generally imitates life, there is evidence that is powerful that the fictional brain booster was founded on modafinil. How can we understand?
By the time the film was in production, modafinil was a poorly kept secret of the rich and powerful. Wildly widely used on Wall Street, it was thought to increase productivity, mental acuity, and concentration. Labelled an intelligent drug (or nootropic) as it reputedly enhanced one or more aspects of cognitive function, it was the stuff of legend for best nootropics energy anybody that was looking for getting ahead. It's not surprising that the prescription drug can be found in the medicine cabinets of one percenters the earth over. But how about the rest of us?
