Cactus can be described as a slow-growing succulent that has tough, stiff stems with fleshy and jointed ends. It is covered with hard, leathery green leaves. The cut section should be at least one node higher than the cut with an interne (a section of the stem that has no leaves). These steps can be used to propagate either by stem or by leaf. You risk damaging the roots and rotting the leaf if you don't dry the cut.

There are many varieties of succulent soils available on the market. You should therefore have many options. Bulk succulent boxes are available as "Assorted", 'Rosette", or 'Wedding' varieties (2/3 rosette, 1/3 Assorted) and in 2" and 2.5" options. The leaves are available as a range of shades, including pink, green, and cream. They do well in full or partial sun, but the color of the leaves will deepen as the plant receives more light. This layer should not be disturbed by any touching of the plant.
