Simply put, yes, succulent plants need light to grow and survive. You should make sure that your desert succulents aren't left in moist soil for any extended period of time. This plant does not thrive in shade for prolonged periods. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had survived the winter frost. If they seem to be managing their current level well, you can always increase the time they spend under the light.
