เกิดแผ่นดินไหวระดับ 7.0 เขย่าดินแดนแถบอะเมซอน ของเปรูเมื่อวันพุธ (24 ส.ค.) ทำอาคารต่างๆ ในเมืองหลวง ที่อยู่ห่างกันเกือบ 600 กิโลเมตรสั่นไหว แม้ว่ายังไม่มีรายงานผู้ได้รับบาดเจ็บและเสียชีวิต รวมถึงความเสียหายต่างๆ

สำนักธรณีวิทยาสหรัฐฯ ระบุว่าแผ่นดินไหวครั้งนี้มีศูนย์กลางใกล้เมืองปูคัลล์ปา ติดกับชายแดนของบราซิล ซึ่งอยู่ห่างจากกรุงลิมา ราว 600 เมตร โดยแรงสั่นสะเทือนทำสายโทรศัพท์ในพื้นที่ขาด อย่างไรก็ตามสื่อมวลชนท้องถิ่นรายงานว่าจนถึงตอนนี้ยังไม่พบความเสียหายร้ายแรง หรือผู้เสียชีวิตกับผู้ได้รับบาดเจ็บ

"ยังไม่มีรายงานบ้านถล่ม แต่มีปัญหาเล็กน้อยกับระบบโครงข่ายโทรศัพท์" ผู้อำนวยการฝ่ายปฏิบัติการสถาบันป้องกันภัยพลเรือน ให้สัมภาษณ์กับสถานีวิทยุท้องถิ่น
